Trevor Lawrence didn't mince words following the Jacksonville Jaguars' 18-13 home loss to the Cleveland Browns.
"We suck right now," he said.
The Jags couldn't finish drives against the Browns defense on Sunday, with their lone touchdown coming in the third quarter following a 66-yard bomb to rookie Brian Thomas Jr.
Lawrence went a ghastly 14-of-30 passing for 220 yards, zero pass touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 71.5 passer rating and was sacked four times. He was also rag-dolled for a safety late in the fourth quarter, which all but sealed the Jaguars' fate.
"I'm pretty shocked," Lawrence said.
Jacksonville has lost each of Lawrence's last seven starts, with the most recent win coming in Week 12, 2023, at Houston.
It's the first 0-2 start to a season since Lawrence's rookie campaign in 2021 (started 0-5, finished 3-14). Through two weeks, the Jags have put up 30 total points as the offense has looked herky-jerky, rarely finding a rhythm.
"We know we've got a good group, we've got good players, and we can be a really good offense, but clearly we're not," Lawrence said. "Everybody has to take accountability, look in the mirror and fix it. I've got to play better. I'm the leader of this offense. It's on me.
"The wideouts have to play better, the line has to play better, running backs have to play better, we have to coach better. It's everybody, honestly."
With games against the 2-0 Bills and 2-0 Texans on tap the next two weeks, it's getting late early for Doug Pederson's club.
"I don't think you hit the panic button," Pederson said. "There's a long season ahead. We've got to figure some things out in a hurry. We've got to coach some things and do some things. Each person has to look at themselves in the mirror, me included. We've got to do better. It's disappointing. It's disappointing because there's glimpses of greatness out there, but it's not consistent enough."
Jacksonville has started a season with an 0-2 record 10 times in franchise history (since 1995). The team has never made the postseason after a 0-2 start.
