Jets to sign RB C.J. Spiller, release Knile Davis

Someone give Knile Davis a hug.

The former Chiefs running back's odyssey through NFL locker rooms continued on Tuesday. After being acquired by and then released by the Packers after one game in Wisconsin, Davis was claimed by the Jets at around 4:30 p.m. ET.

However, just 150 minutes later, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Davis was in fact being cut by Gang Green and is being replaced by fellow journeyman running back C.J. Spiller.

The Jetsconfirmed they signed Spiller and waived Davis on Wednesday.

Spiller played in 13 games in New Orleans last season, only to be released immediately following Week 1. Spiller then signed with the Seahawks ahead of their Week 4 matchup against, yep, the Jets. In three games in Seattle, Spiller compiled just 52 total yards on eight touches. He was cut by the Seahawks six days ago.

The league's running back carousel is a curious beast that plays with the emotions of everyone involved. We wish Davis the best in his search for a long-term landing spot.
