Each Thursday night, Around The NFL will salute one player or coach for making the right call.
NFL clubs drafted 154 players before the Buffalo Bills selected running back Karlos Williams out of Florida State in the fifth round.
That's hard to believe after watching Williams' potent combination of power, speed and receiving ability this year.
Williams beat New York Jets linebacker Demario Davis on a delayed in-breaking route for a 26-yard touchdown catch, blowing Thursday night's game wide open. With that score, Williams became just the second player in history to record a touchdown in each of his first six NFL games during the Bills' 22-17 victory.
A week ago, Williams combined with LeSean McCoy and Sammy Watkins as the Bills became the first team ever to boast a pair of 100-yard rushers and a 150-yard receiver in the same game.
Williams then teamed up with a vintage, sharp-cutting McCoy to tally 209 yards from scrimmage against a Jets defensive front celebrated for shutting down opposing ground attacks. Buffalo's 149 rushing yards are the most allowed by Todd Bowles' defense all season.
Now that their playmaking trio is healthy and contributing big plays each game, the Bills are assuming pole position in the AFC Wild Card race.
Credit general manager Doug Whaley and coach Rex Ryan for pulling the trigger on the McCoy blockbuster and identifying Williams as a fifth-round steal.
