Marcus Mariota becomes the latest AFC quarterback to be felled by a sprained MCL.
Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed Mariota suffered an MCL sprain in Tennessee's 38-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. NFL Media's Rand Getlin reported that it's a Grade 2 sprain via sources briefed on the injury.
Whisenhunt said Mariota's status for Week 7 is unknown, adding that the rookie is "walking around fine." The Titans are optimistic he will play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, two team sources told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
"We aren't going to do anything to put him into any kind of jeopardy," Whisenhunt said.
Whisenhunt was unhappy with the hit after the game.
"I think it was done with the idea of trying to hurt our QB and that's bulls--- football," the coach said.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor have both missed time with MCL injuries this month.
