Da'Quan Bowers had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last month, but the former Clemson standout is preparing for next week's NFL Scouting Combine, his high school coach told the *Charlotte Observer* on Monday.
Bowers, whom NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said might be the No. 1 pick in this year's draft, has been training in advance of the combine, which will begin next Thursday in Indianapolis.
Bamberg-Ehrhardt coach Kevin Crosby, the school's defensive coordinator in 2008 when Bowers was heavily recruited, said the player underwent surgery shortly after Clemson lost to South Florida in the Dec. 31 Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte.
According to a source close to the player, Bowers played with a partially torn meniscus during most of his final season at Clemson. Despite the issue, he led the nation with 15.5 sacks.
It remains unknown if Bowers will be a full participant in combine drills. He also might elect to work out at Clemson's pro day or in an individual session.
