Muhammad Wilkerson said in December that he was "patiently waiting" for a new long-term deal from the New York Jets. The mammoth defensive end might not need to wait much longer.
Combine on NFL Network
In advance of the draft, Marcus Mariota and others will look to showcase their skills at the combine (Feb. 17-23), only on NFL Network. **SCHEDULE**
Wilkerson's camp is set to meet with newly anointed Gang Green general manager Mike Maccagnan at the NFL Scouting Combine this week in Indianapolis, per ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini.
As New York's top defender, Wilkerson is set to make $6.96 million next season under the fifth-year option of his rookie contract. The 6-foot-4, 315-pound run-stuffer has operated as the face of the Jets since the departure of Darrelle Revis.
New York's secondary was a mess this past season, but Wilkerson paired with fellow lineman Sheldon Richardson to furnish the Jets with one of the league's stingier fronts against the run. New coach Todd Bowles wants to keep his homegrown defensive talent in-house, and that starts with working out a new pact for one of the NFL's most disruptive 3-4 ends.
