The Tennessee Titans have locked down their new general manager.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers director of player personnel Jon Robinson agreed to terms Thursday to become the Titans' general manager, the team confirmed Thursday night. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport first reported the news.
Robinson is a Union City, Tennessee, native and the Titans gig likely is his dream job.
Robinson spent the past two seasons in Tampa after working for 12 years in the New England Patriots organization as a scout and director of college scouting (2009-2013).
The Titans have won a total of five games the past two seasons and own the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft. Before Robinson gets to the draft, he'll need to hire a coach.
Tennessee's current leadership has expressed a desire to potentially keep Mike Mularkey, and the interim coach has indicated he's a front-runner for the job, according to Rapoport. It's unclear at this stage if Robinson would be the one ultimately making the coaching decision, but the team is scheduled to talk this week with Mularkey, Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and Jaguars assistant head coach Doug Marrone, Rapoport reported.
If Robinson is in control, a reunion with Josh McDaniels would make a lot of sense given their experience together and the Titans needing an offensive-minded coach to help continue developing Marcus Mariota.
