Tua Tagovailoa (hip) off injury report, but Jaylen Waddle (knee) doubtful for Dolphins' game vs. 49ers

A hip injury landed Tua Tagovailoa on the Miami Dolphins injury report this week.

It won't keep him from starting in Week 16, though.

Tagovailoa will be good to go Sunday when the Dolphins face off against the San Francisco 49ers, coach Mike McDaniel said Friday.

"It's something that in December football, there's a lot of those things where players across the board are getting dinged, and you have to be able to execute with those things," McDaniel explained. "He's certainly not made it an issue for this week's prep."

The same cannot be said for starting wideout Jaylen Waddle, who is doubtful to play with a knee injury, McDaniel added.

Tagovailoa popped up on the injury report Wednesday as a limited participant and carried the same designation Thursday.

Coming off an ugly loss against the Houston Texans in which he threw one touchdown to three interceptions and for just 196 yards, Tagovailoa will aim to rebound to keep the Dolphins' slim playoff chances alive against a 49ers squad that's similarly in slim-to-none territory as it relates to postseason aspirations.

The Dolphins' fifth-year QB entered Week 16 as the NFL leader in completion percentage at 73.7. He's thrown for 2,652 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven picks in 10 starts.

Waddle suffered the knee injury in Sunday's loss to Houston and did not practice all week.

The fourth-year receiver has started all 14 games this season. Waddle is fourth on the team in receptions (54), third in receiving yards (700) and fourth in receiving TDs (2).

Sitting in the ninth spot in the AFC, the Dolphins need a win to earn an 9% playoff probability. They're also looking to rally down the stretch to prevent the club's first losing season since 2019.

Tagovailoa and the Fins kick off against the 49ers at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
