The Buffalo Bills are circling recently cut receiver Jeremy Maclin.
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor joined LeSean McCoyin recruitment of the ex-Kansas City Chiefs veteran wideout this weekend.
"Today was the first day I seen Shady," Taylor said at a charity softball game on Sunday, via the Buffalo News. "We texted about it, but want to get Maclin's number and try to reach out to him. Just to see what his thoughts, what is he thinking moving forward and try to get him here."
Maclin's cut stunned everyone inside K.C. and out.
"Yeah, I was definitely surprised that it happened," Taylor said. "You don't know the reasons, but what I know, from what I've seen from Jeremy Maclin, he's definitely a great player. ... I know some of our coaches have spent some time with him, as well. Would love to have a guy like him on our team competing and coming out and making plays for us. Especially means a lot to our wide receiver room, putting another veteran guy with a whole bunch of talent and still potential left to reach his best. I would love to have him."
Buffalo is one obvious landing spot for the 29-year-old Maclin, given their dearth at wideout. The Bills can use a veteran receiver with Maclin's playmaking ability, route-running acumen and speed. Behind Sammy Watkins and rookie Zay Jones (both of whom are currently hurt) sits a cavalcade of pedestrian options in Andre Holmes, Brandon Tate, Corey Brown, Rod Streater, Jeremy Butler, Walter Powell, Dezmin Lewis, etc.
Speaking on Up to the Minute Live on Monday, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo said he expects four to five serious contenders in the free-agent market for Maclin, and the Bills will be "tempting" for him.
Maclin would immediately upgrade Taylor's receiving corps. In a vital year for Taylor's future as QB1 in Buffalo, it's clear why he'd join the effort to recruit Maclin.
The Bills have $12.6 million in salary-cap space, according to OverTheCap.com, to potentially squeeze Maclin into the rotation.
