Washington Redskins signing CB Cary Williams

The Washington Redskins are adding a healthy body to the secondary ahead of Sunday's wild-card showdown with the Packers.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the team is signing former Seahawks and Ravens cornerback Cary Williams, per a source involved in the situation. ESPN first reported the news.

Williams was waived last month by Seattle, but could see meaningful snaps in a defensive backfield that lost rookie defensive back Kyshoen Jarrett in Sunday's win over the Dallas Cowboys. One of the secondary's most versatile contributors, Jarrett has already been ruled out against Green Bay with a neck injury.

The 'Skins also saw cornerback Dashaun Phillips carted off the field with a neck injury, but he might suit up this weekend after showing significant improvement, per The Washington Post.

As for Williams, he was an expensive flameout with the Seahawks, but gives the Redskins an experienced defender. He started 10 games with Seattle after 64 straight starts with the Ravens and Eagles, but plenty of those appearances came with their ups and downs.

Never ranking higher than No. 48 at his position, per Pro Football Focus, Williams isn't about to save the day, but Washington needed a body -- and they got one.
