Mind-Blowing 2016 Draft Stats
Ohio State could make history in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Take a look at some of the most intriguing draft-related stats below.

Ohio State could have seven players selected in the first round, which would break Miami's record of six in 2004. Whether the Buckeyes top that mark or not, they are certain to crush the record for most players taken in the first two rounds - seven by USC in 2008 and Tennessee in 2000. And they have an outside chance of breaking their own record of most players taken in a single seven-round draft (14, 2004).

QB Carson Wentz of North Dakota State has a chance to become only the third player from a non-Division I or FBS school since the start of the common draft in 1967 to be taken No. 1 overall, joining Terry Bradshaw (Louisiana Tech, 1970) and Ed "Too Tall" Jones (Tennessee State, 1974). Wentz is expected to become the first NDSU player ever to be drafted in the first round. The highest-drafted Bison player was linebacker Steve Nelson, who was taken by the Patriots with the eighth overall pick of the second round in 1974.

Alabama has had 16 players taken in the first round over the last six years, double the number of any other school. Florida is next on the list with eight. The Crimson Tide are expected to pad that number this year. Interior defenders Reggie Ragland, A'Shawn Robinson and Jarran Reed could all hear their names called on Day 1.

There's been much speculation about the Dallas Cowboys taking RB Ezekiel Elliott with their first-round pick in 2016 (No. 4 overall). Two of the last three running backs the Cowboys selected in the first round ended up in Canton (Tony Dorsett in 1977 and Emmitt Smith in 1990). The third was Felix Jones in 2008, who is the only Arkansas player drafted by Razorback alum Jerry Jones in his 27 seasons as Cowboys owner.

Despite signing Robert Griffin III this offseason, the Browns are expected to draft a quarterback, perhaps as early as No. 2 overall. Since 1999, Cleveland has taken four quarterbacks in the first round - Tim Couch, Brady Quinn, Brandon Weeden and Johnny Manziel. None lasted more than four years in Cleveland, and Weeden and Manziel were with the Browns for only two. Since Couch was drafted in 1999 -- a span of 16 seasons -- the Browns have had an NFL-leading 24 different starting quarterbacks.

Seventy-nine players have won a Heisman Trophy. Fifteen of those never played a single game in the NFL, including the first winner, Jay Berwanger, the top overall pick in the inaugural 1936 NFL draft. Fifteen Heisman winners went undrafted in the NFL. More recent winners have had mixed results in the NFL; Cam Newton is coming off an MVP season, RGIII and Johnny Manziel are trying to resurrect their careers, and Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota found early NFL success. What is Derrick Henry's fate?

Defensive tackle is considered the strength of this draft. In fact, as many as five could be taken in the first round, which would tie a modern-draft record established in 2001 and tied in 2003. The 2001 draft was particularly strong for defensive tackles. Two of the first-rounders that year -- Richard Seymour and Casey Hampton combined for 13 Pro Bowl selections and five Super Bowl championships.

CB Jalen Ramsey of Florida State has a shot to be taken No. 1 overall. It's rare that a defensive player gets taken with the top selection; only three defenders in the past 20 years have gone No. 1 overall: defensive ends Jadeveon Clowney in 2014, Mario Williams in 2006 and Courtney Brown in 2000. It's even rarer for a cornerback to go at the top. How rare? Ramsey would be the first.

In 1994, the last time the Rams were in Los Angeles, they owned seven of the draft's first 100 picks (one in the first round, three each in Rounds 2 and 3). They took OT Wayne Gandy with their first-rounder and WR Isaac Bruce near the top of the first round. Gandy stuck around the league for 15 seasons with four different teams and Bruce became one of the franchise's all-time greats. After those two picks, there wasn't much to speak of. Back in L.A., the Rams own only six picks in this year's draft. Is there another Bruce to be found?

There has only been only one kicker drafted in the first round in the last 30 years, and that was Sebastian Janikowski by the Raiders in 2000. No one expects that list to grow to two this year, but many believe Florida State's Roberto Aguayo will get drafted as early as the second round. Only five kickers in the last 30 years have been taken in the first two rounds.
