Carson Palmer is officially listed as questionable to play Sunday against the New York Giants.
The Arizona Cardinals' quarterback was limited in practice all week with a sore shoulder. Coach Bruce Arians called the injury a "nerve thing," but expressed confidence his quarterback will be good to go by game time.
Drew Stanton will start if Palmer's shoulder suffers a flare-up. Stanton hasn't thrown a pass in a regular season game since December 2010, per the Arizona Republic.
Last season, in the first week of December, Palmer didn't throw a pass in practice prior to a game against the St. Louis Rams. Palmer then came out and tore up the Rams' defense going 27-of-32 passing in a 30-10 win. The Cardinals hope for a similar result against a Giants secondary that was torched last week.
Elsewhere on the Cards' injury report, Andre Ellington (foot) is listed as questionable. As he did in the opener, the running back believes he will play Sunday.
"Sunday is game day so I'll be ready," Ellington said, per the team's official website. "The adrenaline will be flowing. I'll be good to go."
Some good news: Safety Tyrann Mathieu is listed as probable. He could see his first action since suffering an ACL tear nine months ago. Arians has insisted he wouldn't put Mathieu in the game if he wasn't full-go, so his status is a great sign for a defense that has taken hits.
