Cowboys QB Dak Prescott sits practice as precaution due to ankle soreness

The Dallas Cowboys are giving Dak Prescott a summer Friday off.

The starting quarterback was held out of Friday's session for precautionary reasons due to ankle soreness, according to the team.

The Cowboys are conducting a light practice after their joint sessions with the Los Angeles Rams ahead of Sunday's preseason matchup. Trey Lance and Cooper Rush will get the reps in practice.

It's of little surprise that the Cowboys would give Prescott a day off at this point in training camp. He's not expected to play in Sunday's preseason game, meaning Lance and Rush would have likely gotten more reps Friday even if Dak suited up.

Much like the situation with Prescott seen in a walking boot earlier this offseason, Friday's absence is much ado of nothing. The only thing that matters is QB1 being ready for Week 1.
