Rams re-sign veteran QB Jimmy Garoppolo to back up Matthew Stafford

The Los Angeles Rams will have their top two quarterbacks back for 2025.

The Rams are re-signing veteran Jimmy Garoppolo to a one-year contract, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported on Monday. Garoppolo's deal has a base value of $4.505 million guaranteed and $9 million in incentives, bringing its max value to $13.505 million, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero added.

The team recently got a new contract done for starter Matthew Stafford after allowing him to gauge his value with other teams. Head coach Sean McVay indicated that the next order of business was bringing back Garoppolo.

In a weaker QB market, Garoppolo might have had options on the open market. But he will return to L.A. to run it back with a team that finished the regular season on a 9-3 tear and nearly took down the eventual-champion Eagles in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Garoppolo, 33, served a two-game suspension to start last season for violating the league's PED policy and played in only one game: the Week 18 contest in which most of the Rams' starters sat out. Garoppolo completed 27 of 41 passes (65.9%) for 334 yards, two TDs and one INT in the 30-25 loss to Seattle.

The one-time Super Bowl starter has totaled 15,828 pass yards, 96 TDs and 52 INTs in 82 career games (64 starts) in his 11-year career with the Patriots, 49ers and Rams.
