2019 Scouting Combine: Next Gen Stats top performers
Take a look through this edition of Next Gen Stats to see how we picked out the best players based on their combine results in drills, including the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, and shuttle.

Montez Sweat (6'5 3/4", 260 lbs) ran the fastest 40-yard dash (4.41) by a defensive lineman at the NFL Scouting Combine since 2003. Sweat finished in the top 8 among 2019 DL in every drill he participated in: 36" Vertical Jump (T-7th), 10'5" broad jump (4th), 4.29 short shuttle (T-6th) and 7.00 3-cone (T-5th).

While Ben Banogu ran a 4.62 40-yard dash at 250 lbs (6th-best among 2019 DE), it was his performance in other drills that led to his 99 Combine Score. Banogu led all 2019 DE in vertical jump (40") and broad jump (11'2"). His 11'2" broad jump ranks 1st among defensive linemen at the NFL Combine since 2003.

Rashan Gary (6'4 3/8", 277 lbs) ran a 4.58 40-yard dash, fastest by any player to weigh 275+ pounds since Combine results became official in 2003. Gary also ranked in the top 7 among DE in the vertical jump (38") and broad jump (10'0").

Isaiah Johnson finished with the highest Next Gen Stats Combine Score (98) among CB after running a 4.40 40-yard dash at 6'2 1/8", 208 lbs. Johnson also finished in the top 5 among 2019 CB in several other drills: 11'1" broad jump (T-3rd), 4.06 short shuttle (2nd) and 6.81 3-cone (5th).

Jamel Dean (6'1", 206) ran the 2nd-fastest official 40-yard dash (4.30) among 2019 Combine participants. Dean also tested well in the vertical jump (41") and broad jump (10'10").

Brian Burns ran a 4.53 40-yard dash at 249 lbs, while also testing well in the broad jump (10'9") and 3-cone drill (7.01). Burns is 1 of 3 defensive ends with a Composite Draft Score above 90 when accounting for production, size and combine measurables. (Others: Nick Bosa & Montez Sweat)

Zedrick Woods ran the fastest official 40-yard dash (4.29) by any player at the 2019 NFL Combine. Woods also tested well in the broad jump (10'2"), 3-cone (7.00) and short shuttle (4.15).

Michael Jackson Sr. (6'0 5/8", 210 lbs) ran a 4.45 40-yard dash (8th-fastest among 2019 CB) and tested well in the vertical jump (40 1/2"), broad jump (10'10") and short shuttle (4.12).

If Marvell Tell III ran the 40-yard dash, he could have been the highest scoring safety by the Next Gen Stats Combine Score. Tell III flourished in every drill he participated in (42" vertical jump, 11'4" broad jump, 6.63 3-cone and 4.01 short shuttle), but did not run the 40-yard dash.

Among Combine participants since 2003, Thornhill finished with the 2nd-best vertical jump (44") and broad jump (11'9") behind only Cowboys CB Byron Jones in 2015 (44 1/2" vertical jump & 12'3" broad jump). Thornhill also ran a 4.42 40-yard dash at 205 lbs, 5th-fastest among 2019 safeties.

Ken Webster (5'10 7/8", 203 lbs) ran an official 4.43 40-yard dash (6th-fastest among 2019 CB) and finished with the best vertical jump (43") and T-3rd-best broad jump (11'1") among cornerbacks.

Sean Bunting ran the 5th-fastest 40-yard dash (4.42) and had the highest vertical jump (41 1/2") among 2019 cornerbacks. Bunting did not participate in the short shuttle or 3-cone drills.

Renell Wren (6'4 7/8", 318 lbs) ran a 5.01 40-yard dash (T-4th-best among 2019 DT). Wren also finished in the top 5 among 2019 DT in the vertical jump (32"), broad jump (9'10) and short shuttle (4.53).

Noah Fant (6'4 1/8", 249 lbs) lead all 2019 tight ends in five different drills: 40-yard dash (4.50), vertical jump (39 1/2"), broad jump (10'7"), 3-cone drill (6.81) and 60-yard shuttle (11.49). Iowa teammate T.J. Hockenson is the only other 2019 tight end with a higher Composite Draft Score (95) than Fant (88).

Chase Winovich (6'2 3/4", 256 lbs) helped himself most in speed and agility drills, running a 4.59 40-yard dash (4th-best among 2019 DE), while finishing the fastest 3-cone (6.94). Winovich would have scored even higher had he tested better in the vertical jump (30 1/2") and broad jump (9'8").

D.K. Metcalf (6'3 3/8", 228 lbs) ran the fastest 40-yard dash (4.33) by any player to weigh 225+ lbs at the NFL Combine since 2003. Metcalf flourished in explosiveness drills (40 1/2" vertical jump & 11'2" broad jump), but struggled in "agility" drills (4.50 short shuttle & 7.38 3-cone).

Quinnen Williams (6'3", 303 lbs) ran a 4.83 40-yard dash, the fastest time for a 300+ pound defensive lineman since the 2012 NFL Combine. Williams also posted solid numbers in the vertical jump (30 1/2") and broad jump (9'4").

Since 2003, only two running backs have posted a 4.40-or-faster 40-yard yard dash and 40"+ vertical jump: Saquon Barkley and Justice Hill. Hill also tied for the best broad jump (10'10") among 2019 running backs.

Parris Campbell finished in the top 5 among wide receivers in every drill he participated in: 4.31 40-yard dash (T-1st), 40" vertical jump (5th), 11'3" broad jump (T-3rd) and 4.03 short shuttle (T-1st). In high school, Campbell set the Ohio Division II state record in the 60-meter dash at the 2013 indoor championships (6.85).

Jerry Tillery (6'6 1/2", 295 lbs) finished top 5 among 2019 defensive tackles in the 40-yard dash (4.93), vertical jump (32") and broad jump (9'7").
